Not everything is as it first appears. In this episode of ONE, Nathaniel Clark explains how it took years for him to realize what his series of Little Dancer paintings was really about: the duality between his own masculine and feminine sides. “To me, painting has always been just kind of an exploration of what’s going to come out,” he says.
Who is Nathaniel
Nathaniel Clark paints the narratives that “spring from his unconscious.” He says, “For me, making a painting is a bit like wandering in the desert. I may begin with a vague notion of a destination, but the pleasure is in the unexpected discoveries and unplanned detours.” Nathaniel received his bachelor of art’s degree with special honors in drawing and figurative sculpture from Yale, and earned his MFA at the Graduate School of Art at Washington University in St. Louis.
